Opensource linux drivers speed up

Hi ! This trick helps to increase FPS ingame if you are using Intel videocard or ATI one with Open Source drivers under Linux.

Due to patent limitation, open source driver releases don't support (hardware) S3 Texture Compression by default. Software emulation is on though, so we still can play Auteria (and many other games), but at lower (sometimes significant !) FPS. Well, Mesa drivers has no s3tc library by default, but it could be compiled from the sources or installed from 3d party repositories !

For Debian users (like me :P ) it could be taken from Multimedia repository: http://deb-multimedia.org You need libtxc-dxtn0 package. Just download and install it ! Sure, you can add the multimedia repository and do it with aptitude/apt-get/synaptic tools...

Here you can find sources: http://people.freedesktop.org/~cbrill/libtxc_dxtn/

Thank you Xaphier (from ELsewhere) for the important information !
